Job Summary:

Leads all aspects of radio station’s on-air experience in a leadership and operations role, responsible for talent, content, programming, and online presence. Multi-format experience and on-air ability are preferred.



  • Reviews and determines all programming content; decides program schedules in conformance with FCC rules and regulations, company policy and applicable federal, state, and local laws; protects station license.
  • Plans and oversees tone, programming, production, sound & theme, website, online presence, and social media.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the lifestyle and needs of the target listeners and works for continuous improvement in all on-air elements, promotions, events, and digital/social assets to increase loyalty by the  target listeners for each brand.  
  • Writes and produces station imaging and promotional announcements.
  • Identifies, recruits, and coaches on-air talent and technical staff.  Conducts frequently coaching/airchecks sessions with on-air talent for continuous improvement.
  • Partners with Market President and Sales in support of local and corporate business goals to increase market revenue share, listeners, ratings, advertiser satisfaction, and revenue while aligning programming fit with client, station, and audience; creates talent and station marketing, promotion, and image campaigns.
  • Determines and maintains editorial and creative vision for station(s) to enhance station image and visibility within the community.
  • Evaluates programming available from distributors, syndicators, and independent producers to recommend acquisitions for broadcast.
  • Schedules staff for on-air shifts, remotes, and appearances.
  • Ensures staff has successfully completes all company programs, plans, and training in a timely manger (e.g., EAS/FCC, Payola/Plugola).
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with editorial partners, as well as business and community leaders.
  • Handles all payables according to company policy and in a prompt fashion.
  • Will be the primary on-air backup for our morning host
  • Is the primary voice for breaking news and severe weather coverage outside of the morning show
  • Produces and hosts weekly public affairs program


  • Ability to operate under FCC broadcast rules and regulations; as well as federal, state and local contesting rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools to gather and analyze ratings data, make business decisions based on analysis; sound judgment and quality decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of Nielsen Diary methodology and data analysis; working knowledge of RCS products including NexGen
  • Excellent team leadership and delegation skills, including motivation of staff; can set goals & expectations, provide honest feedback and manage performance
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • High degree of planning and organizing skills; can multi-task and meet specific deadlines
  • Flexible, creative, and innovative in using technology to deepen listener relationships
  • Ability to think both tactically and strategically
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; excellent grammar; can adjust communications style based on audience needs

  • Ability to host on-air shift in a music format is a plus!

Work Experience

  • At least two years of full-time experience in news/talk and sports formats is required; equivalent experience in music formats is also accepted
  • Prior experience directing and managing a team is a plus, but is not required


  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
